Cupid Cartman Is Somehow Worse Than Regular Cartman on South Park

On South Park, Eric Cartman is the absolute worst. While the character has a lot of fans, that doesn’t change the fact that he is an absolutely terrible person who wants nothing but the best for himself even if it means the worst for everyone else. But as scary as this is going to sound, Cupid Cartman is somehow even more disturbing than regular Cartman — and not just because he’s a flying, naked baby with Eric’s face.

Cupid Cartman, usually referred to as Cupid Me by Cartman, is still a relatively recent addition to the show. He debuted in Season 16, Episode 7 during the introduction of another new character named Nichole Daniels. She’s another 10-year-old girl in Grade 4 and one of Cartman’s classmates. Not surprisingly, the thing that caught Cartman’s eye was that she was African American, and his personal brand of racism took on an interesting form.

After seeing her, Cartman immediately decided to get Nichole into a relationship with the only other Black kid in school, Token. Cartman’s logic was that all couples should be paired off based on their race, and he had apparently done something similar with a number of his schoolmates from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. That’s where Cupid Cartman comes into the story.

When Cartman sets out on one of his matchmaking missions, Cupid Cartman appears. This little naked baby with wings roams South Park, shooting people with his mystical arrows and creating love where there was none before. It would almost be sweet if it wasn’t for the horrifying racist undertones to everything Cartman does, particularly in this case.

It’s incredibly unclear whether Cupid Cartman is real or a hallucination. The obvious conclusion is that Cupid Cartman is imaginary, but the show also depicts him doing things on his own without Cartman’s physical presence anywhere near the situation. Knowing the absurdity of the world that South Park has created over the years, much stranger things have happened. Just look at Towelie, the self-professed worst character ever.

When Cupid Cartman reappears in Season 19, Episode 6, things got even more absurd. He was now in love with Cartman and was attempting to pursue a sexual relationship with him that Cartman wanted nothing to do with. In addition, Cupid Cartman had taken a liking to peeing in the mouths of anyone he shot with his love arrows. He acted like it was part of his process, but that was questionable at best.

The end of that episode seemed to indicate that Cupid Me was in fact all in Cartman’s head. His mother caught him imagining his date with Cupid Cartman while sitting on the toilet and engaging in a very private moment. Regardless, this doesn’t explain all of the creepy things Cupid Cartman was shown to have done during his appearances on South Park. One would think that most people would have noticed actual Cartman peeing in their mouths.
