WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Wynonna Earp Season 4, Episode 10, “Life Turned Her That Way,” which aired Friday on Syfy.
While Wynonna Earp‘s return for the second half of its fourth, and potentially final, season began with more whimsical episodes that saw the gunslinger and her friends endure everything from love enchantments and magically induced amnesia, Season 4’s tenth episode has set the stakes and battle lines for the series finale. Here’s a spoiler-filled recap of what happened in “Life Turned Her That Way.”
At the start of “Life Turned Her That Way,” Wynonna has fallen into a daily routine of hunting monsters through the Ghost River Triangle, dispatching them easily with a single shot from her trusty, mythical revolver Peacemaker. She also continues to hit the bottle hard before going back to bed. Concerned, Waverly and Nicole Haught both stage an intervention, confiscating Peacemaker and telling her to reconcile with Doc. After calling out Wynonna as an alcoholic, the Earp walks away from her sister’s wedding planning in a huff.

Privately meeting with Doc at the entrance to the extra-dimensional Garden where they were trapped for months, Waverly ponders why the Garden would give her a blank book without explanation. These musings are cut short when the two are menaced by two demons growing ravenous from the Black Badge Division stopping supplies to The Glory Hole in the wake of Amon’s death. Waverly flees into the magical fog emitting from the Garden and finds herself face-to-face with Jolene, her demon opposite number freed by Bulshar’s death, while Doc and the demons are captured by the BBD, with Remy barely escaping.
Rachel Valdez and Wynonna find the wounded Remy when demon-hunting in the woods. Remy tells them what became of Waverly and Doc. Wynonna enlists the help of her old friend Casey, the resident expert on navigating the Ghost River Triangle’s fog, to lead Nicole into the unknown to rescue Waverly. Jolene, though, taunts Waverly for not being chosen like her sister. Jolene ambushes the duo, killing Casey and throwing Nicole on the either side of the fog before turning her attention back to Waverly. Growing desperate, Wynonna goes to the BBD’s headquarters, unaware that Jeremy Chetri has similarly been imprisoned for defying the agency’s new direction. Shocked at the BBD’s new agenda, Wynonna makes a deal to have Cleo Clanton released to help her rescue Waverly while Doc and Jeremy remain in custody.
Back at the fringe of the fog, Cleo performs a blood ritual to summon a ravenous Billy Clanton to serve as a sort of bloodhound for Wynonna to navigate the fog. As Billy and Jolene battle, Wynonna learns Jolene has been drawing out Waverly’s dark, demonic side. Jolene kills Billy and drives out Wynonna back into the fog unprotected, causing Waverly to completely surrender to her demonic potential and kill Jolene on the spot. With Jeremy and Doc still in BBD custody, and Wynonna now at her demonic sister’s mercy, the battle lines for the finale are set with the Earp sisters ready to go against one another.
Produced by SEVEN24 Films and IDW Entertainment, Wynonna Earp stars Melanie Scrofano as the title character, Dominique Provost-Chalkley as Waverly, Katherine Barrell as Nicole Haught and Tim Rozon as Doc Holliday. New episodes of Wynonna Earp Season 4 air Fridays on Syfy.
