This May, the Definitive Edition of the Rooster Teeth video game RWBY: Grimm Eclipse comes to the Nintendo Switch.
Set to hit the eShop on May 13, RWBY: Grimm Eclipse – Definitive Edition comes with all 3 years’ worth of content updates already released for the game, plus brand-new content. The Switch release features “new, exclusive two-player couch co-op play” (in addition to the existing four-player online co-op) and “eight, all-new outfits added to the characters’ iconic collection.”
Based on Rooster Teeth’s popular anime-inspired series RWBY, Grimm Eclipse began life in 2014 as a fan game (originally titled RWBY: Grim Eclipse) developed by Jordan Scott, with Rooster Teeth Games soon bringing Scott aboard to help develop an official version. Grimm Eclipse initially released for the PC via Steam early access in late 2015, with a full PC version arriving in 2016, followed by a Macintosh version. In 2017, the game made its way to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.
The upcoming Definitive Edition for the Switch comes from Aspyr, a developer that has already ported a number of existing games to Nintendo’s hybrid console, most notably Star Wars titles like Jedi Knight II – Jedi Outcast and Episode I – Racer.
“In RWBY: Grimm Eclipse – Definitive Edition, join your friends in intense combat action as one of eight students of Beacon Academy and stop the evil forces of the Grimm and Doctor Merlot,” an official synopsis reads. “Level up your favorite RWBY character and traverse Remnant in new storylines or the Grimm Gauntlet mode. In addition to the re-release of the game itself, Rooster Teeth is hosting the “RWBY Definitive Couch Co-Op Pack” Sweepstakes, in which fans can enter to win one of three prize packs, valued at $1,000 each. Winners will be announced the week of May 13.
