Why Tom Holland Is the Strongest Spider-Man | CBR

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has its fair share of powerful characters, but Peter Parker has some of the most potential when it comes to raw strength. With so many powerful heroes and villains already established before Peter arrived, his place in the larger MCU needed to put him in a spot where he wasn’t too strong or too weak. As a result, he has quickly become the strongest live-action Spider-Man to date.

Although many consider Spider-Man one of the most powerful Avengers in terms of strength, before Tom Holland donned the web-shooters, Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of the character was easily the strongest. His feats included stopping a moving train, holding a hanging trolley with one hand and even breaking the tensile strength of Venom’s webbing. But because there were never any true galactic threats or gods to contend with, his power reached a ceiling by the third film.

On the other hand, the MCU Spidey has faced quite a bit in his first few years on the job. His earliest feats involved stopping a vehicle that was traveling at full speed, holding a ferry together before Iron Man arrived, carrying a full elevator and holding back the strength of one of the children of Thanos. While these feats are fairly common for any neighborhood Spider-Man, it’s the age that he performed them that makes him stand out compared to his predecessor.

In the original films, Peter Parker became Spider-Man in his senior year of high school, placing him around 18. His next two sequels had the character fighting off villains during his early to mid-20s. While still young, it turned out to be nothing compared to the age of the MCU’s Spider-Man. In Captain America: Civil War, Peter tells Tony that he got his powers at 15. Since then, Pete has grown older and more powerful, even being able to lift the rubble of a collapsed building that pinned him down in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

In only a few short years, MCU Pete has proven his raw strength on more than one occasion. Most of the live-action Spider-Man films never paid as much attention to the character’s growth in the same way Marvel has. While that decision has also done the superhero a bit of a disservice as viewers worry they may not see Spider-Man’s full potential, it also proves Holland’s version still has his best years ahead of him.

As Spider-Man continues to make his way through the MCU, he will undoubtedly encounter even more powerful heroes and villains. But when it comes to strength, Pete will continue to amaze. Considering he is still growing and manages to keep up with the heavyweights suggests there is more untapped potential within him.
