Wonder Woman: How Earth One Lets Diana Take Over the World | CBR

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Wonder Woman: Earth One Vol.3 from Grant Morrison, Yanick Paquette, Nathan Fairbairn and Todd Klein, on sale now.

Wonder Woman: Earth One has always pushed the boundaries and subverted the mainstream DC lore about how Diana and Themyscira view gender, sexuality and what’s needed to unite a broken world.

In this reality, Wonder Woman has realized the world of man just can’t be fixed, especially if humanity is left to its own devices. And in Wonder Woman: Earth One Vol. 3, Diana solves the problem by taking a more aggressive stance. Diana effectively takes over the world, forcing love and peace all over the world, forcing it to become the utopia it couldn’t be on its own.

This book puts the strength and hatred of the patriarchy on full display, with Ares masquerading as Max Lord and using the U.S. government to bomb Themyscira with giant robots. However, he’s not just playing the physical game, he’s also manipulating the media into tearing women down across the world. He keeps spreading a philosophy of subservience and subjugation, which is why after conferring with her dead mother, Hippolyta, in the underworld, Diana knows there’s only one course of action.

She returns from the land of the dead, after Steve Trevor swapped his life for hers, and she showers the world with her love rays to create an idyllic utopia once Ares falls. While it seems harsh, in a thousand years, the world becomes a republic known as Harmonia.

While there are still some toxic groups, they’re being weeded out, and Diana admits progress will have resistance. Luckily, it’s at a minimum and with the blessing of so many men, she’s been vindicated by everyone from a resurrected Steve to presidents across the world. And as for any conditioning due to her peace and love rays, she’s not brainwashing people — she’s bringing out the love they hid below, replacing their hate.

It’s a brave, new world with free health care, free education, no debt and the Amazons’ tech is being shared to help everyone out as long as they’re worth it. This is a true Paradise World, and most men are glad they submitted. Now, Diana’s team knows they will be called out for being problematic, but they’re prepared to defend her reign with evidence showing how the world is being healed as opposed to being suffocated, as it was in the world that Superman controlled in the Injustice series.

In the future, unity, order, love and peace reign supreme, proving that Wonder Woman was right. While humanity would destroy itself and bring chaos down again, Diana does what’s best for everyone by taking over, as the stable, daring and kind vision of Harmonia encompasses the world.
