10 Intimidating Pokémon That Are Surprisingly Weak | CBR

There are a vast variety of Pokémon creatures that are based on plants, objects, and animals that exist in the real world. Some of these Pokémon play on our fears in order to come across as rather intimidating. Despite the fact that many Pokémon do look intimidating at face value, plenty of these scary-looking Pokémon are actually not nearly as strong as they look.

Although the Pokémon can be dangerous when a person is facing them alone, these Pokémon are usually considered too weak to be a valuable addition to a trainer’s team. In fact, with the right team, it is easy to knock out a lot of these Pokémon in a single hit.

10 Beedrill Has Low Base Stats

Beedrill strikes fear into the hearts of many trainers, and for good reason. Rather than a bee, it looks and acts like a three-foot wasp with deadly stingers on its forelegs and tail. The Beedrill usually prefer to attack as a swarm, forcing Ash Ketchum to flee from them multiple times.

When they are alone, they are actually very weak. Since Beedrill has a low base stat total of 385, it’s easy for a trainer to knock one out.

9 Pinsir Ran Away From A Metapod

As a Pokémon incapable of evolving, Pinsir isn’t anyone’s first pick when fighting against other trainers. Pinsir does look like an intimidating adversary, as it boasts powerful pincers that can crush logs. Its gaping mouth is even more unsettling, housing long, horizontally placed teeth.

In Pokémon: I Choose You, a wild Pinsir actually lost to Ash’s Caterpie, which was only using string shot. Once Caterpie started to evolve into Metapod, Pinsir took the opportunity to run away.

8 Venusaur Has A Lot Of Type Weaknesses

Out of all three of the fully-evolved Kanto starters, Venusaur is easily the weakest. Being a grass and poison type makes it weak to a lot of different types. These types are flying, fire, psychic, and ice.

This makes it less useful against the gym leaders Blaine and Sabrina as well as the Elite Four member Lorelei. Despite looking like a large and intimidating dinosaur, it would be much better to have a Charizard or Blastoise.

7 Ariados Has Low Base Stats And Many Type Weaknesses

Ariados is a giant spider with huge mandibles. The way it hunts for food is similar to a real-life spider. Unlike a real spider, Ariados is over 3 feet tall and weighs 73.9 pounds. Although it may look frightening, it is actually as strong as Beedrill, as its base stats are 390.

It is weak to flying, rock, fire, and psychic types, which means it has as many weaknesses as Venusaur. Although it isn’t a Pokémon anyone wants to encounter on their own, it’s surprisingly easy to take down.

6 Arbok Constantly Loses to Ash’s Pikachu

Arbok using poison sting

Arbok is a massive 11 foot cobra that typically scares its foes by using the markings on its body and hissing. Arbok has usually been seen with Jessie from Team Rocket, but it has been bested by Ash’s Pikachu many times.

Even Ash wasn’t able to do much with an Arbok when he used one against a Jolteon, as Jolteon’s spikes only ended up hurting it. Although Arbok looks frightening, it’s hard for fans to truly be scared of it due to its less than impressive history in the anime.

5 Banette Can Be Defeated By Love Or By Opening Its Zippers

Banette’s backstory is very creepy: it is a doll possessed by hatred towards the person who threw it away, and it is determined to get revenge. However, it is actually easy to get the best of Banette.

In order to make it turn back into an ordinary doll, someone has to care for it until its hatred disappears. Alternatively, opening any of the zippers on its body allows most of its energy to leave its cursed body. This would be a huge vulnerability in battle.

4 Slaking Is Too Lazy To Fight

Slaking slacking off

Slaking is a large, powerful-looking ape. Unfortunately, Slaking is rarely eager to fight. It is one of the laziest Pokémon in the franchise, preferring to nap all the time and only moving after it has eaten all of the grass in the surrounding area.

When forced to move, it does so begrudgingly, as it prefers to be as lazy as possible. A Pokémon like this is hardly suited for Pokémon battles. Its ability, Truant, makes Slaking loaf around every other turn.

3 Onix Lost To A Water Sprinkler

Onix is a 28-foot tall chain of boulders that resembles a snake. Despite its large size, it is able to travel through the ground quickly. Despite having a huge advantage over other Pokémon in size, it is incredibly weak to water.

In Ash’s battle against Brock’s Onix, setting off the emergency water sprinkler system did most of the damage to the Pokemon, rendering it incapable of moving. Although it is Brock’s strongest Pokémon in the games, it is actually not very difficult to defeat.

2 Garbodor Can’t Stand Light And Is As Strong As A Muk

Garbodor getting angry

Garbodor is unpleasant in every way. It looks like a pile of trash that came to life, sporting razor-sharp teeth and spewing all sorts of vile and toxic substances from its grotesque body. It looks so foul and terrifying that most trainers would pass up on catching this Pokémon.

Garbodor isn’t at its full potential when its enemy Muk is not around, and it also cannot stand the light. Its base stat totals are about the same as Muk’s and Weezing’s, neither of which are particularly strong either.

1 Eelektrik Is Too Slow To Outspeed Most Pokémon

Eelektrik loses to Pikachu

Eelektrik looks very unsettling. Although its body resembles an eel, the row of sharp teeth lining its round mouth makes it look more like a leech. Its beady eyes also do not make it any more charming.

It likes to attack opponents with its electricity, but with a base stat total of 405 and a base speed of 40, it is easy to out-speed this Pokémon and take it down before it has any time to do any damage.
