Star Wars: 10 Jedi Who Are Actually Terrible With A Lightsaber

In Star Wars, the Jedi were considered by many to be the best warriors in the galaxy, though the Mandalorians might have had something to say about that. Century after century, the Jedi Order was the main peacekeeping force and was responsible for facing numerous threats such as pirates and Sith Lords.

Every Jedi had their own lightsaber that was unique in design and configuration. It was as important to them as the breath crossing their lips. While they were all trained to use their lightsabers proficiently, that didn’t mean they were all experts with them. In fact, some Jedi were downright bad with a lightsaber in their hands.

10 While Quinlan Vos wasn’t the worst with a lightsaber, he wasn’t creating any new fighting forms

A lot of Star Wars fans could be forgiven for not knowing the name Quinlan Vos. His most substantial task was working alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi to recapture Ziro the Hutt in The Clone Wars. Other than that, his only other major appearance was in a novel alongside Asajj Ventress.

Vos was best known for being a bit of a rogue Jedi, which probably contributed to him being corrupted by Count Dooku. While he wasn’t the worst with a lightsaber, he wasn’t creating any new fighting forms. But he did have the Force ability to read people’s memories from objects they had touched.

9 Plo Koon Was A Great Pilot, But Not As Good With A Lightsaber

Plo Koon Was A Jedi Master

During the Clone Wars, one of the most prominent Jedi around was Plo Koon. He was a skilled Jedi Master who served on the Council for many years. Koon was also responsible for finding Ashoka Tano and bringing her to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant as a child for training.

A highly respected pilot, Plo was at his best when he was behind the controls of his fighter. That’s where he was when his Clones gunned him down once Order 66 was initiated. While Plo Koon would pull his lightsaber when necessary, it certainly wasn’t his strongest Jedi skill.

8 Even Piell Was Tough As Nails but wasn’t exactly the best with a lightsaber

Even Piell tries to escape

While Even Piell might not have been the biggest Jedi in the fight, he was certainly one of the toughest. His main appearance in the Star Wars universe happened on The Clone Wars when Anakin and Obi-Wan rescued him from the Citadel. Peill died during the mission.

Due to his size, Even Piell had to work twice as hard as other Jedi to survive in battle. Though he was incredibly tough and didn’t back down from any threat, he also wasn’t exactly the best with a lightsaber.

7 Ima-Gun Di Just Didn’t Quite Have The Gift

Ima-Gun Di is ready to die

Few Jedi died more valiantly during the Clone Wars than Ima-Gun Di. He and his Clone troops were stationed on Ryloth, helping the resistance fend off the Separatists. The problem was that the Republic forces couldn’t get supplies or reinforcements to them. The Twi’leks were getting frustrated.

Ima-Gun Di and his Clones sacrificed their lives to help the Twi’leks escape, with Republic supplies soon following. He was good enough with a lightsaber to get through his trials but was, by no means, an incredible duelist.

6 Eeth Koth Could Swing A Lightsaber, Just Not As Well As Others

As a member of the Council, Eeth Koth was a highly respected Jedi. But during the Clone Wars, he was captured by General Grievous and was eventually removed from the Jedi Council which resulted in him leaving the Order entirely.

None of that stopped Darth Vader from hunting him down as part of the Jedi Purge. Vader killed Koth, then kidnapped the child. Had Koth been a bit better with a lightsaber, he might not have been defeated by Palpatine’s minions so frequently.

5 Cin Drallig Should Have Been Better With A Lightsaber

The Jedi Temple was guarded by a group of Jedi called the Jedi Temple Guard. They committed to an even more regimented life than most Jedi did, essentially giving up their identities to protect the Temple.

They were led by a Jedi named Cin Drallig, a notoriously difficult lightsaber instructor. Despite those credentials, Drallig fell to Darth Vader quite quickly when the former Jedi attacked the Temple. Cin may have been a prime example of those who can’t teach.

4 Bolla Ropal Died Brutally

Cad Bane tortures Jedi Master Bolla Ropal to Make Him Cooperate

A Jedi Master and member of the Jedi Council, Bolla Ropal was trusted with some of the most sensitive information the Order had access to. Specifically, he protected a Kyber crystal that had the identities and locations of all the Force-sensitive children in the galaxy.

In the end, Bolla Ropal was not killed by General Grievous, Asajj Ventress, or even Count Dooku. Instead, he was captured and tortured to death by a bounty hunter named Cad Bane. It was an awful way for a Jedi to go out. Had he been more proficient with a lightsaber, it may have gone down differently.

3 Nahdar Vebb Thought Too Highly Of His Own Abilities

Nahdar Vebb is about to die

Kit Fisto was one of the most respected lightsaber duelists in the entire Jedi Order. His skills were virtually unparalleled, which was why Mace Windu brought him on the mission to arrest Chancellor Palpatine. Unfortunately, his Padawan did not achieve that same level of skill.

Nahdar Vebb and Kit Fisto were attempting to recapture Nute Gunray when they ran into General Grievous. Despite warnings from his former master, Vebb attempted to defeat Grievous singlehandedly and was slaughtered. He overestimated his own abilities and paid the price.

2 Rig Nema Was A Healer Not A Fighter

Rig Nema was a superb healer

Not every Jedi devoted themselves to a life of battle and conflict as a means of establishing peace in the galaxy. Some of them became Consular Jedi, choosing instead to follow a path of science, diplomacy, and other disciplines.

Rig Nema was a Consular Jedi who devoted her time to being a doctor and was responsible for caring for Yoda when he began hearing the late Qui-Gon Jinn’s voice from beyond the Living Force. She was a talented and respected physician but still not someone other Jedi wanted at their backs in a fight.

1 Jocasta Nu Focused On The Archives

Jocasta Nu is in the mood to fight

Another key Consular Jedi, Jocasta Nu was the Chief Librarian of the Jedi Archives. She was a highly respected source of knowledge and wisdom, providing guidance to anyone who needed it. That included prominent warriors like Ahsoka Tano and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

But Jocasta was a disciple of the mind, not of combat, and was not known to be a proficient lightsaber duelist. Regardless, she survived the initial Jedi Purge and went into hiding. Unfortunately, Darth Vader eventually tracked her down and killed her.
