There is a report that WWE‘s NXT brand has a high number of positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the positive COVID-19 outbreak will have an effect on this week’s NXT taping for Wednesday. “Obviously no names are being disclosed nor has WWE addressed it publicly,” Meltzer said.
Meltzer goes on to say that last Thursday workers were building and moving wrestling rings in the building next to the Performance Center, which is where NXT moved its taping last year during the coronavirus pandemic. NXT previously taped at Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL. The people moving the rings reportedly were not wearing masks, thus breaking protocol. Positive COVID-19 tests reportedly came back from individuals who were at the building next to the Performance Center, and for those who weren’t there at the time.
For now, NXT cast and crew who tested positive are now under quarantine for the remainder of the week, along with those in close contact. However, this would not affect the talent on the Raw and SmackDown rosters.
The last recorded COVID-19 outbreak at NXT took place last September, with WWE pausing training at the Performance Center and sending NXT talent and staff into quarantine. NXT will host its first-ever two-night TakeOver event, titled NXT TakeOver: Stand and Deliver, on April 7 and 8 with the second night taking place on Peacock ahead of WrestleMania.
NXT airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on USA Network.
