Fantastic Four director Josh Trank says the Star Wars movie he was signed on to direct in 2015 would’ve been a standalone Boba Fett film – and that contrary to reports he was “fired”, the director says he quit the production.
In an interview with Polygon, Trank explained that he was hired to direct a Boba Fett film while simultaneously working on Fantastic Four – leading him to quit the Star Wars film in order to avoid being let go.
“I quit because I knew I was going to be fired if I didn’t quit,” Trank says, blaming stress over the ill-fated production of Fantastic Four, which later bombed with both critics and audiences.
As for what the film would’ve entailed, Trank said only “The visions that I had in that moment were just out of this world.”
Plans for a Boba Fett film were reportedly scuttled entirely following Trank’s exit.
