Longtime DC artist Inaki Miranda is branching out with his first creator-owned series, writing and drawing it – with help from his brother, Roy.

Scheduled to debut October 14 from AfterShock Comics, We Live is a near-future apocalyptic story where humanity, on the bring of extinction, get a warning from an unseen alien entity that it’s coming to kill them all – but will save 5,000 human children.

We Live is a bittersweet apocalyptic story seen through the eyes of two kids, two siblings, Hototo (5 years old) and Tala (13), who must face the tragic journey of the refugee as their only chance of survival,” Inaki Miranda said in the announcement.

Miranda is pulling inspiration from Hayao Miyazaki, Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, Theo Angelopoulos’ Landscape in the Mist, Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and more.

“Just grains of salt from all of these and more that I’m sure I’m leaving behind, have shaped We Live in some way or another,” Miranda said.
