First he figured out to get comic books to his customers via a pizza parlor despite his store being shut down by the city of Los Angeles. Now when new comics begin arriving in his store on May 20, he figured out a way to get a well-known professional to cover part of his customer’s bills.
Ed Greenberg, owner/operator of L.A.’s Collector’s Paradise in Winnetka, one of three locations in southern California, announced that comic book writer/publisher/digital entrepreneur/retailer Mark Waid will cover the first $10 for 50 customers who call in their orders to the store on Saturday, May 2.
“I have always been a fan of Mark, both as a writer of some of my favorite books of all time (Kingdom Come, Flash, Irredeemable, Empire and so many more) but also as a stand up guy, someone who comes through, and a true fan of comics,” Greenberg wrote in his store’s newsletter. “I was surprised when he contacted me two days ago, because we have been closed for a while due to the pandemic. Mark wanted to do something special for our customers and we came up with an amazing idea.”
So the first 50 customers to call to place an order Saturday will have the first $10 of their purchase covered by Waid.
There is no mention of any requirement that customers purchase DC’s The Flash by Mark Waid Book 7 trade paperback, which will arrive in stores serviced by Diamond Comic Distributors on May 20.
[that’s a joke]
