Sony Pictures has reshuffled some of its planned theatrical release dates, including those previously assigned to its untitled third MCU Spider-Man film, and the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, per Forbes.
First up, Spider-Man 3 moves to November 5, 2021 from its previous date of July 16, 2021, which has now been taken by Sony’s other Tom Holland vehicle, Uncharted.
November 5 was previously the second date given to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness following Marvel Studios’ own updated schedule announcement . That film now moves to March 25, 2022 (more on that here).
Meanwhile, the animated Into the Spider-Verse 2 has moved off its planned April 8, 2022 release date to October 7, 2022. This date was previously reserved for an untitled Marvel Studios film. Marvel Studios is seemingly giving up that date to Sony because moving the Doctor Strang sequel into 2022 would have made five MCU films that year.
These are the latest in a string of announced changes to theatrical release dates from numerous studios, due to theater closings as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
