SHONEN JUMP Publisher SHUEISHA Confirms Staffer Diagnosed with COVID-19, Shares Measures Being Taken

The Japanese manga publisher Shueisha has announced that one of their in-office staffers has contracted COVID-19, with the company outlining the measures they’re taking now for their other employees.

Shueisha’s offices are located in the Chiyoda district of Tokyo. The publisher is best known for their manga anthology Weekly Shonen Jump, which currently serializes One Piece, My Hero Academia, Hunter x Hunter, Black Clover, Haikyu!!!, Dr. Stone, and many others.

Here is their full statement, translated from Japanese:

On April 6, a new coronavirus infection of our employees (editors in their 40s) was confirmed. The employee had a fever on March 26, consulted a medical institution, and was refraining from coming to work. On April 3, he underwent a PCR test and was diagnosed positive on the night of the 6th.

In response to this, we are taking the following measures while cooperating with administrative organizations,” the statement continues.
– Temporary closure and disinfection of the floor where infected people work
– Check the work history of infected people and identify close contacts
– Thorough observation and reporting of health of close contacts

We have been working from home on a company-wide basis since 6th.
