Kit Harington’s Eternals role has been confirmed as Dane Whitman, better known in Marvel Comics as Black Knight. The announcement was made during Marvel Studios’ Saturday presentation at Disney’s D23 Expo.
In comic books, Black Knight is a longtime Avenger who wields a cursed sword, and who is also the on-again-off-again paramour of Gemma Chan’s Sersei. He inherited his sword and title from his uncle – a former Avengers villain.
Black Knight has long been rumored to be a part of the MCU’s next phase. Harington was announced as Dane Whitman – his codename wasn’t used – but Marvel has often introduced superhero characters by their civilian identities first.
Eternals is due out in theaters November 6, 2020.
