UNIVRS Inc. (formerly EXPVR Co., Ltd; headquartered in Chuo Ward, Tokyo; CEO: Keigo Fujikawa; hereafter referred to as UNIVRS) will start crowdfunding for the VR game Little Witch Academia – VR Broom Racing – (tentative title) based on Studio TRIGGER’s anime, Little Witch Academia, at midnight (Japan time) on Thursday, July 4, 2019.
Little Witch Academia, produced by Studio TRIGGER, follows the heroine, Akko, who joins a magic school. It’s a story about youth and growing up with your friends as Akko overcomes trials even as she stumbles and makes mistakes. This anime was announced in March 2013 as one of the titles part of Anime Mirai, a project to educate young animators, overseen by Yoh Yoshinari, the mecha design director and an animator for Neon Genesis Evangelion. That July, they raised roughly 60 million yen on Kickstarter for a sequel called Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade, a movie that was released in October 2015. An animated TV series began in October 2017. As a story supported by both domestic and international fans, this series truly has grown up with its friends.
The next step on Little Witch Academia’s journey is a VR game. The player becomes a character in the game and can freely fly around the sky on a broom and race using magic. This VR game uses UNIVRS’s unique anti-motion sickness technology (patent pending) to greatly reduce the VR motion sickness that has limited VR games up until now. This game will be an amazing flying experience that will make the player truly feel like they’re flying!

A crowdfunding project for a Little Witch Academia VR game is underway!
This VR game is aiming for an April 2020 release, so the crowdfunding project for development and promotional funds will be up for 45 days, starting Thursday, July 4, 2019. We’ll be exhibiting at Anime Expo 2019!
The prototype of Little Witch Academia – VR Broom Racing – (tentative) will be exhibited at Anime Expo 2019, which begins on July 4th in Los Angeles, California, at Good Smile Company’s Booth (#XXXX). During the event, the director Junichi Yamamoto will also participate in a panel.
To go along with the start of the crowdfunding project, we’ll also hold demo events for Little Witch Academia – VR Broom Racing – (tentative) in Japan. For those who have already backed the project as well as those who are still considering it, please come to test out the best VR flying experience you can have!
