Hulu has ordered two new Marvel live-action TV shows – Ghost Rider and Helstrom – to debut in 2020, according to Deadline. The two series will reportedly co-exisit with one another, but Deadline is unclear on if the show will exist in the same continuity as Runaways, or even Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to the Hollywood trade, Hulu’s Ghost Rider will focus on the Robbie Reyes version of the character, created by Felipe Smith and Tradd Moore. Ingrid Escajeda (Sneaky Pete,Empire) will reportedly be the series’ showrunner.
“Reyes lives on the Texas/Mexico border and when he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles to control the power he wields,” reads Deadline‘s description for the show.
Gabriel Luna played Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider in ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but Deadline reported that its unclear if the actor will reprise his role or if it will be re-cast.
Hulu’s Helstrom will reportedly feature Daimon and Ana Helstrom, “the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer.”
“The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the terrorizing worst of humanity – each with their attitude and skills,” reads Deadline‘s description of the show.
The siblings are based on Daimon and Satana Helstrom, who in comic books was the progeny of the biblical Lucifer and a human woman named Victoria Wingate. Daimon was created by Roy Thomas and Gary Friedrich in the pages of Ghost Rider, while Satana came later in Vampire Tales by Thomas and John Romita Jr.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s Paul Zbyszewski will reportedly showrun Helstrom.
Hulu already has a massive line-up of Marvel-based shows, from the current live-action Runaways to the upcoming cartoons M.O.D.O.K., Hit-Monkey, Tigra & Dazzler, Howard the Duck, and The Offenders.
Marvel’s parent company, Disney, owns a major stake in Hulu.
