Avengers: Endgame has already garnered a record-breaking $107.2 million at China’s box office, according to early estimates from the Walt Disney Company (via The Hollywood Reporter). With Tuesday midnight screenings alone bringing in $28.2m in China, Endgame‘s day 1 Chinese total trumps the previous record-holder for biggest first day ever in China, Monster Hunt 2 with $85m.
Endgame reportedly accounted for 99% of all movie tickets sold in China on Wednesday, with “many top multiplexes” showing the film on all of their screens – some beginning at 15 and 30 minute intervals.
For reference, Avengers: Infinity War opened in China with $76m on day one, followed by a $191m opening weekend, and a $359.5m gross for the country.
According to the Hollywood trade, movie industry analysts are expecting Endgame to become the first North American film to break $500m in China ultimately. One of China’s movie ticket sellers, Moayan, projects to take in $521m by the end of its run.
Internationally, Endgame was tracking for a $270m opening weekend – but THR says some sources predict it to exceed $300m.
